Why the DNC is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This decision by the DNC to suppress the publication regarding its internal autopsy report concerning the 2024 election appears shocking however entirely predictable. Resistant to hard truths, the DNC operates more like a PR firm rather than an electoral entity focused on building local power to secure victories.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Reluctant to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has stayed under the influence of the previous administration all through this past year. Releasing an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether the leadership truly desire to foster honest conversation regarding the errors which allowed the former president to become president again. Yet, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there are no lessons to glean from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: will this lead to victory? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from the core mission," a justification which was presented to justify concealing the report.

Major Failures an Autopsy Would Have Addressed

An autopsy report with any value would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Voter Alienation: Losing of millions of voters who supported the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive in the close 2024 election.
  • A Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined choice of a party leader to stay in the race, coupled with a last-minute step-aside, is seen by some as denying Democratic voters the chance for open primaries.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: While facing economic anxiety, the campaign reportedly bowing to elite contributors while failing to challenge the impact of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Effect: An unwillingness to shift a stance on a major international conflict is cited as alienating key demographic groups, notably with young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Young Voter Allegiance: Research indicates a major decline of votes for the candidate among the youth electorate.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal is consistent with a recurring tendency of sidestepping hard truths. It echoes a situation in which nearly all elected Democrat in Congress supported an incumbent's decision for running for re-election until a poor televised debate forced a change.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers of the electorate were continually telling researchers of their opposition to that candidate to run again.

Campaign Spending Questions

A substantive report would also investigate questions about financial allocations, including the amounts flowed to high-priced advisors as well as media firms during an electoral effort which expended a colossal war chest in a short period.

A Broader Problem

Ultimately, the blockage surrounding this report points to an allegiance to party leaders that oversaw a losing presidential campaign. The signal to the party's base – including countless loyal volunteers – is that they do not have a right to see what the insiders have learned from hundreds of interviews drawing from feedback from all states.

An organization unwilling to critically review where it went wrong finds it difficult to break free from the rut which was so advantageous to the rival party.
