The Video Platform Provides Viewers Authority to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to cut down on the volume of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the platform announced that it currently hosts more than 1 billion content made with AI.

Testing and Rollout

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a widespread launch. This shift aligns with a surge in content created by AI, driven by recent AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that almost a tenth of the most rapidly expanding content creators on another major platform primarily display AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this content is considered mass-produced AI material, a phrase for substandard, mass-produced content that is typically absurd or surreal.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers like content produced via AI tools, from digital art to informative clips, and we want to provide users the ability to adjust the amount of that, according to their own preferences,” commented a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The platform disclosed that there are currently over a billion videos on its app identified as AI-generated. Collectively, more than 100 million pieces of content are added to the platform each day, making clips made by AI a relatively small portion of its total content library.

How to Adjust Settings

Members will be in a position to reduce or increase the amount of AI-generated videos they watch by using the “manage topic” feature in the platform and choosing the AI content topic. Additional categories that currently be adjusted under the filter cover current affairs, style, beauty, and dance.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its rules oblige users to label convincing artificially created content, and it forbids malicious AI impersonations of well-known individuals or crisis events. Any authentic-looking AI video that is not labeled can be taken down under its community policies.

Additionally, the service will from now on apply an AI-generated watermark to content created with its own AI tools, or identified by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This measure is designed to stop users from seeking to evade the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is also introducing a two million dollar educational fund for professionals and institutions to develop informative material about ethical AI use. This program will assist educational bodies focused on educating coding and technology.

Platform Protection

TikTok has justified its moderation strategy, during discussion over proposals to lay off hundreds of safety staff in the United Kingdom. It is planning to eliminate 439 jobs in its content moderation division in its British office, with worker representatives and internet security professionals voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A company official stated that human moderation would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can protect employees by removing the most distressing content prior to it has to be seen by staff. The company announced a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content reviewed by content reviewers over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate humans and technology to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with dangerous material as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is really helping us operate efficiently.”
