"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The prosecutor stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the police once more.
